@juneofdoom Day 2: Scream | Forced to Watch
(( child whumpee / parental whumper / abusive parent / magic whump / cruciatus curse / bloody injury / forced to kill / reluctant whumper / fantasy racism / Muggle torture ))
fandom: Harry Potter whumpee: Lucius Malfoy age 11 / random Muggle whumper: Abraxas Malfoy / Lucius Malfoy / Pureblood side characters words: 1100
Tumblr media
The Muggle screamed, a horrifying broken sound as he writhed in the frosty grass. Nearly a dozen wizards were loosely circled around him, lit only by a full moon that seemed huge.
Lucius had never been allowed to witness the Christmas Muggle hunt before, except from his bedroom window, and that didn't really convey the visceral realities of it. He'd never seen the Cruciatus curse up close before. It was only a Muggle, but it was still unsettling, all those screams. Watching the way he clawed at the earth and pulled his fingernails up, and his limbs twisted around at bizarre angles. His back arched up so sharply it looked like it would snap, and his eyes were just… blank.
The screaming cut off as Black ended the curse. The Muggle collapsed, twitching and gurgling wetly. Some of the other wizards were talking amongst themselves, with their pipes or drinks. Some didn't even have their wands out. It was like they didn't actually care.
He watched quietly, trying to fit in with that and take his cue from them, and especially from his father. His father was hardly paying attention, talking with old Macmillan about a Ministry job he was going to set him up for now that the Mudblood Minister was out. That was so normal.
He should just be normal.
He looked back at the Muggle, reminding himself it was just a Muggle. Basically an animal. He'd been practising curses on animals for years.
"Go on, boy," Lestrange said. He had his younger son there with them, the next youngest person there after Lucius; he had just left school. It was his first time, too. He'd been at some of the parties before, but not the hunt afterward.
Rodolphus smirked and lazily waved his wand with a silent spell, so that chains leapt into being and bound the Muggle tightly. "Flagrante."
Lucius knew that curse — it made things unimaginably hot. He didn't see the use at first, though, and there wasn't any change he could see. Then the Muggle started screaming in high, desperate shrieks, jerking around, and the sizzling and the smell of cooking meat answered for themselves. It was the chains that were burning. They scorched through the Muggle clothes and dug red and crispy black streaks into his skin. The smell was revolting… It made the brandy he'd been given to drink sit badly in his stomach, and he looked away uncomfortably, twisting his wand in his hand.
His father caught his eyes, and he immediately dropped his to the ground.
Not enough. A wave of Father's wand ended those curses, and then he cast a general healing spell that covered over the burns and silenced the screaming into choked sobbing breaths. "Lucius hasn't had the opportunity," his father suggested. It wasn't a suggestion.
"He is just eleven, isn't he?" Nott pointed out. A couple of the adults had a look about them.
"Twelve tomorrow. Old enough to be a man."
Lucius lifted his chin defiantly. They didn't think he could do it? They should know better than to underestimate a Malfoy. He settled his wand in his hand firmly, wiping a little sweat from his palm, and looked down at the Muggle.
What should he do? Most of the curses he'd practised seemed very childish now. Silencing or freezing or binding jinxes that would be useless on someone who was already prisoner.
The Muggle's wide eyes darted around in a panic, seemingly only semi-intelligent. An animal fighting on instinct. That was pathetic.
But those eyes caught his and fixed on him, pleading, full of desire if not true sapience. That seemed to settle in his stomach, like the drink and the smell, making it roil.
How dare he? Just a Muggle, how dare he make him feel low? He had no right! He slashed his wand down. "Exoculo!" he said firmly with intense focus, and a gash raked sideways across the Muggle's face, across both eyes, spraying blood and clear fluid. The man — no, the Muggle — screamed again and jerked back in the grass, trying to get away from him.
Why didn't he feel any better? He'd taught the creature a lesson and made him stop looking, but his stomach was still twisting and his hands were still sweating. He really was going to be sick…
Some of the wizards laughed, and Black clapped his shoulder. "Precocious," he praised. "I only hope my boys take to magic like this."
That felt a little better. At least he could ignore the sick feeling.
"I'm sure they will; all it takes is the right environment," his father said, and glanced at the Muggle trying to crawl away. "Let's wrap this us and retire, shall we? You know the Killing Curse, Lucius?"
He wasn't so certain about this. He did know it, he knew what it was, but that wasn't the same… But he did. "Yes, sir." He glanced at his father to make sure that was the right answer, and it was.
"You're not saying he already knows those, Malfoy," Nott insisted. Now he looked actually uncomfortable.
"What are you waiting for?" Father instructed him.
He knew the theory, but not practically… But that was all he really needed, right? He could make it work if he had to. He took a deep breath and pointed his wand at the Muggle. The thing. The beast. It was just getting rid of a pest, like stepping on an ant or a fairy. "Avada Kedavra."
He could feel as he said it that he'd done it wrong. He didn't have the conviction, or his magic power wasn't great enough… Whatever it was, those were just empty words. His body tensed in anticipation of the punishment he'd receive later, when the other wizards were gone.
"That's to be expected, I suppose," Macmillan said easily. "It's quite advanced magic. It would have been tremendously impressive if he had, at that age…"
"Quite," was all his father said, and it sounded cool to him.
Rodolphus apparently sensed an opening. "Avada Ked—!" He cut off sharply; Lestrange cuffed his boy upside the head to stop him taking liberties that would annoy their host.
Father ignored that. "It's still time to clean up. Diffindo." He sliced a Severing Charm across the Muggle in a small spray of blood, but the placement wasn't immediately lethal, it just ran across his stomach. The thing screamed again.
Father gestured toward the Muggle and the other wizards followed suit, slicing the writhing Muggle up with charms, spraying blood across the grass. His father was looking at him, an imperious stare. He dropped his eyes back to the Muddle. "Diffindo." He watched another cut open in the path of his wand across the Muggle's chest, and more blood run out to pool around him, staining the ground dark in the moonlight.

OUR SPIRITS BLOSSOM WHEN WE SING God sets the lonely in families, he leads out the prisoners with singing; but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land. Psalm 68:6
Our Open Doors colleague, Ron Boyd-MacMillan, shares the following insight from his teaching, “Why I Need to Encounter the Persecuted Church.”
Chinese evangelist, Mrs Yang, was visited by another full time preacher who was very downcast. The preacher wanted to buy a tape player, but had no money. Mrs Yang sat down and just began to sing to him. Her voice was deep and scratchy, the tune barely discernible, the words simple: I am a wanderer, my home is in heaven/ Life is fleeting/ Our home is in heaven/ In this world we have many trials/ And sadness and sickness/ True happiness is not in this world/ But in heaven.
Mrs Yang sang as if before the Lord himself. Every word poured out from her core with total conviction. Tears rolled down her cheeks, her hands clenched the air, and she beat time on her hip. Soon the visiting preacher had joined in, and I watched them, roaring out the hymn together, smiles over both their faces. The preacher left, still with no money for his longed for tape player, but refreshed and encouraged.
Then again, I watched one morning as Mrs. Yang went out into the hills to pray. I followed her at a discreet distance. First she prayed for twenty minutes, and then she sang, walking around, for another twenty minutes. For the next hour she read her Bible, making notes, planning the day’s sermons. After that she sang again, for another half hour.
I confessed I had been spying on her, and asked “Why do you sing so much when there is no one to hear?” She said, “My father once told me, ‘One of the sweet things about the Christian life is that you will do things because they are commanded, and then you will spend the rest of your life gaining deeper insight into why God’s commands are so good.’ So singing is a command. In the Psalms we are constantly exhorted to sing praises to our God. But as for why, I confess it is one of those wonderful mysteries my father told me about. You see, while in prison, I could pray and read scripture, but nothing raised my spirits like singing. Maybe it’s because singing somehow concentrates all of the body on the praise of God, but I have found it essential to the maintenance of a positive spirit.”
Then she looked embarrassed. I said, “What is it? You were about to say something, but you have gone all reticent.” She replied, “Well, it’s just that an old lady told me something that really sums up the main reason I sing. She said, ‘Our spirits are like flowers, and song is the sun. Just as flowers only truly open when the sun shines, so our spirits only blossom when we sing.’ I believe that. I don’t know how, but it’s true. Since my prison cell, I cannot do without song, and I am very frightened that as China gets more open, and the churches get more organized, we are going to leave the singing to the professionals. This would be terrible. The only way you can have a full blossoming spirit is to sing to it.”
RESPONSE: Today I will make my spirit blossom positively by singing to the Lord in the Spirit.
PRAYER: Ask God to impact all Christians with this valuable insight of singing praises to Him.

One Day - Part 6
A/n (and disclaimer): Dear magical tumblr friends, I’m really moved by the great reception this series has had. It is my baby, my first series and also my way of  navigating through these trying times. I hold it dear to my heart and knowing you guys like it just makes me ten times happier. Thanks for all the love and support.
Having said that, please don’t hate me for this chapter. It’s peak drama. It can’t get much worse than this (in this series, at least). It broke my heart a little, tbh, but it is important. There’s angst. Both Draco and Ernie behave like arseholes. A little bit of swearing...I’m crossing my fingers for you to like this.
I have also have some news. Remember when I said on the last A/N that chapter 5 was the middle of the series? I lied a tiny bit. I had planned for 10 parts. Now we have 12 lol So this is the actual half of the series.
Dear anon who sent me that angsty / fluffy request, if you’re reading this, last night I came up with a very detailed story line which I’m really excited about. I’ll write that as soon as I finish all of this.
This part includes a quote of Wuthering Heights by Emily Brönte. Also, one or two quotes come from the actual movie.
Anyway, enjoy!
Draco x reader (she/her pronouns) Word count: 2184  Summary: One day AU. Post-war. Since The Battle of Hogwarts, Draco and y/n meet one day a year.
Masterlist
3 May, 2003
(Y/N) sat in the farthest corner of an intimate muggle restaurant. She looked at her wristwatch for what had to be the twentieth time. Draco was two hours late. By now, (Y/N) figured she shouldn’t be surprised. What disconcerted her the most was the fact that she had waited for him. She was about to ask for the check and apparate back home when he waltzed into the restaurant. The man who (Y/N) saw approaching to her was not the sweet and very troubled friend she cuddled with, but rather the asshole that used to bully her and her friends back in school. He walked with his chest puffed, a cocky smile on his lips and an arrogant expression on his face. He was not her Dray, but rather Malfoy.
It took her no time to figure out he had been drinking. (Y/N) rolled her eyes, trying to disguise the hurt and disappointment she felt. He regarded her seriously for a minute. Draco hadn’t seen (Y/N) since that incident at the manor. They tried really hard to keep in touch. Draco’s life at the moment, though, didn’t allow for a lot of profound communication, mainly because he wasn’t honest, not even with himself. He’d drink every single day and party every other night. He’d wake up with strangers, squander his fortune in casinos and pick up stupid fights. Without fail, their owls would travel back and forth every week, but the letters sometimes mounted to absolutely nothing.
Seeing her in front of him, Draco found (Y/N) as beautiful as ever. He realized he was still in love with her, despite his efforts to drown his feelings for her – along with everything else. Perhaps, as contradictory as it sounds, the frustration he felt while having (Y/N) (Y/L/N) in front of him, made him behave like his old self. She was a symbol of everything he wanted and couldn’t have, of every bad thing he thought about himself, of how undeserving and inadequate he was. Much like when he was in school, all of that turned him into an absolute prick.
Draco asked for a whiskey. As he did so, he checked the waitress out. (Y/N) scoffed.
“What?” he defended, as the redhaired waitress walked away, “she’s pretty for a muggle.”
(Y/N)’s eyes widened. He had changed so much in three years after the war…and now he made comments that took her back to her first few years at Hogwarts. (Y/N) wondered why had she accepted his invitation for dinner in the first place. What was she expecting, really? Her friend – if you could call him that at this point – was not there anymore. He was replaced with the insufferable git Draco Malfoy was meant to be all along.
“So,” he said, trying to diffuse the tension, “what’s new with you?”
(Y/N) didn’t feel much like speaking to him right now. She looked away. Draco was hurt by this, but he pressed on. He needed her confirmation that he was a tosser. He needed her to tell him that he was worthless, that she didn’t love him or believed in him. He needed that reminder because he wanted to kiss her so badly, but he knew he wasn’t good enough for her. He wasn’t good enough for her love or her forgiveness or faith. He wasn’t good enough for redemption. He was a villain. He had been, anyway. And people believed it. So, he had to play his part.
“Are you still with MacMillan?” he asked, trying to act nonchalant, as if the news of her relationship hadn’t affected him deeply.
As (Y/N) nodded, Draco’s whole body was filled with jealousy. He knew he couldn’t be with her. He knew she was better off with someone like Ernie MacMillan than himself.
And yet.
(The combination of those two words seemed to haunt him whenever (Y/N) was the topic).
“Even you can do better than that,” he spat.
He was being so nasty that his self-hatred was reaching dangerous levels. People believed this façade to be his true colours, even more than when he actually tried to reveal himself as he truly was. Why, then, wasn’t (Y/N) leaving? Why was she still sitting in front of him? Why would she look at him with those wounded eyes, with that broken heart, and yet keep giving him chances?
The waitress came back with their drinks. The brief interruption allowed (Y/N) to take a deep breath. She still didn’t know what she was doing there. Even if it was her love for him that glued her to the table, at this point he had already exceeded what was acceptable and even healthy. She was on the verge of tears.
“Why are you behaving like your idiotic Hogwarts self?” she asked.
“Speaking about Hogwarts, how’s the teaching?” he countered, completely ignoring her question.
(Y/N) sighed and for some reason decided tell him. Maybe that would shift the atmosphere a little. She told him that her approach to DADA tried to resemble professor Lupin’s: theory and practice in every single class. (Y/N) talked so passionately about her job and her students that it was hard for Draco not to hang onto her every word. For a second there, (Y/N) saw the ghost of a genuine smile playing on his lips. In that fleeting moment, she felt satisfied.
This feeling, of course, came crashing down with his scornful remark: “that’s good enough, I guess”.
“What is that supposed to mean?” she asked through gritted teeth. She wished he had just shrugged it off again, but he had an answer ready and he shot to kill.
“Well, (Y/N), you know what they say,” he said, not even meeting her eyes. His finger was playing with the rim of his empty glass.
“No, Draco, enlighten me. What do they say?” she asked, bracing herself for a scathing remark.
“Those who can, do; those who can’t, teach,” he answered offhandedly.
(Y/N) felt the anger scorching her insides. She glared at him, a fire in her eyes Draco hadn’t seen in the longest time. In that moment, all of her sadness fuelled her irritation as she stood up. The seat fell behind her.
“And she who can’t will hex you,” she stammered before stomping out of the restaurant.
Draco had finally pushed away the only person that believed in him. He thought he was going to feel a bit better, given that had sacrificed himself for her safety. She deserved better. Then why was he feeling so empty and stupid? Leaving more money than he had to on the table, he rushed after his best friend. Draco followed her to an alley where she was about to apparate. He grabbed her by her hand and noticed she was crying.
“What do you want, Draco? What else do you want?” her voice was hoarse and desperate.
“I – I’m sorry,” he murmured.
(Y/N) had to conjure all of her self control to answer to him. “I don’t know what’s the reason for you to put up this horrible façade, Draco. I can read right through you and I trust this…this git I had the misfortune of spending my evening with is not the real you. But I can’t do much about it. Do you want to live your life as the entitled prick you were back in school? So be it.”
“(Y/N)…”
“I love you, Draco. I really do. I just don’t like you anymore.”
(Y/N) didn’t even spare him a second glance before apparating. Once alone, Draco broke down completely. This was not what it was supposed to be like.
...
(Y/N) wiped away the tears in her eyes as she opened the door to her flat. The lights were on, every single one of them. She specifically recalled turning everything off before leaving, so she clutched her wand and walked cautiously around her duplex. Much to her relief, all she found was Ernie sitting crossed-legged in the middle of her bed. She relaxed at first, but then she realized that was also a very strange sight. (Y/N) noticed that he was clutching a notebook in his hands and was eyeing it furiously.
“What are you doing?” Ernie’s eyes shot up. She realized that the notebook he was reading was her diary and her heart almost stopped.
“What is this?” he shouted, tossing her diary at her.
(Y/N) flinched. She knew exactly what he had read and guilt started to eat her up.
“(Y/N),” he roared.
She didn’t meet his eyes, fresh tears welling on her own. Ernie picked the notebook from the ground and started reading out loud.
“I love Draco. I love him with every beat of my broken heart?!” he pressed all of his anger into very single word, “Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same.”
(Y/N) didn’t want to listen to her own foolish words. “Stop! Stop, Ernie!”
“I believe Draco feels undeserving of a good life,” he carried on anyway, “I, (Y/N), know he is undeserving of a good life.”
“Ernie, please,” she said, her voice barely audible at this point. She tried to take the book from him, but he just ran out of the room, reading and mocking her in the process.
“I hope those self-destructive behaviours don’t consume him,” he continued, “I, on the other hand, sincerely hope they do.”
When (Y/N) could finally retrieve her diary, they were engulfed by a rancorous silence. They stared at each other for the longest time, not moving an inch. She was inconsolable. His heartbreak pushed him to behave like Draco less than an hour before him.
“I am also a pureblood, (Y/N).”
“What?” the comment seemed very out of place.
“My last name is on the list of the Sacred Twenty-Eight,” he said, adopting a haughtiness she had never seen in him, “My family can be traced back to nine generations of wizards and witches.”
“Ernie, what does that have to do with anything?”
“For the past three hours or so I’ve been racking my brain, trying to think what in the world could you possibly see in Malfoy. The only logical solution I see is that you’re more biased towards blood purity than what you actually admit. Now, I can’t blame you, but –“ (Y/N)’s hand collided spectacularly with Ernie’s cheek.
Had it been a different situation, she would even feel proud about the print of her palm on his face. But rage was seeping from his every pore and (Y/N) felt humiliated. Before he could retort, she barked:
“How dare you!”
“I’ve given you everything. I tried to make this work, (Y/N). I really fancy you, love you even. But not even once have you said those three words to me and yet that…that death eater trash gets all the praise and love and poems and multiple entries on your diary? Bloody hell!”
(Y/N) didn’t know why, but the first thing that occurred to her was to defend Draco Malfoy from Ernie: “he’s not death eater trash.” In that moment, she seriously wanted to slap herself.
Ernie looked at her as though she was insane. “Is that seriously all you got from what I just said?” he said in disbelief.
Before she could even answer he just shook his head. “You know what? Just forget about us, (Y/L/N),” he said before storming off.
(Y/N) sat down in the middle of her room. She felt like a bad person, a very stupid bad person. She had let Draco stomp all over her feelings and broke Ernie’s heart in the process. Why were feelings and relationships so hard and confusing?
All of a sudden, she felt a pair of arms engulf her in a hug. She smelled Ernie’s cologne and sobbed loudly into his chest.
“I am very sorry,” she said.
“Listen to me, (Y/N). I hope we can be friends in the future. I’m much too hurt right now…and I’d be lying if I told you I don’t resent you,” he said wiping away the tears from her eyes and forcing her to look at him. He was also crying.
“But you’re precious and I’d be honoured to have you in my life in whatever capacity,” he finished.
“I feel terrible, Ernie,” she sniffled, “but it would be an honour and a pleasure to have you as my friend…eventually.” They shared a hug and cried a little more.
When they both calmed down, things were strangely nice and light between them. Ernie praised her writing and encouraged her to publish even more.
“I know you adore your job as a teacher, love, but this,” he said pointing at the catastrophic diary, “is really your thing and the world needs more of your writing.”
(Y/N) couldn’t believe her luck. The fact that he was still here, regardless of what had just happened between them, made her heart swell. She was mesmerized by his Hufflepuff traits, his loyalty and friendliness showing up even when he was hurting.
Before he left, he kissed her forehead and told her a few words that would haunt her dreams:
“Be careful, princess. Malfoy really doesn’t deserve you.”

The Second Wizarding War was over and 12 Grimmuald Place was once again an empty shell.
When Harry and company returned to the house Walburga Black's portrait was on the floor the frame cracked and her face from the neck down had completely been "blacked out." It was as if she had clawed out her own face.
No sound came from the former matriarch of the Noble and Most Ancient House Black.  It was a eerie and ghastly sight.
"Didn't Sirius say a permanent sticking charm was placed on it?" Ron pointed.
Hermione turned the painting on the back and examined it.
"Let's get it out of here" said Harry.
"Agreed."
Ginny traced outlining of the frame. "Something feels different about the house."
She looked at the family tapestry and there was a letter on the table next to it.
Weeks earlier....
Several cloaked hooded figures stood in the entrance way of 12 Grimmauld Place.
Walburga Black's portrait screams and sobs echoed throughout the house. The house-elf Kreacher was no where in sight to comfort his mistress.
Portraits came from the near and far corners of Grimmuald Place. Whispers soon reached paintings of family members that were elsewhere in Britain.
She continued to bawl, clawing and tearing at her face.
"Hush girl! These are the consequences of your depraved actions!"
Phineas Nigellus Black bellowed. The former patriarch of the Black family held expression of contempt and disgust at his great-granddaughter.
Walburga's grandfather Pollux, father Cygnus II, youngest brother Cygnus III, and cousin/husband Orion stared in horror.
Walburga's mother Irma Crabbe and cousin Charis Black rushed to restrain her.
Phoebe and Elladora Black began to laugh hysterically and wail as well.
Her younger brother Alphard and cousin/sister-in-law Lucretia Black never took their eyes off her.
Melania Macmillan swept up her grandsons Sirius and Regulus in her arms, Ignatius Prewett shielded them from their mother's sight. A faint smile graced Melania lips.
Walburga's grandmother Violetta Bulstrode and great-grandmother Ursula held no emotion.
Magenta Tripe, Arcturus III, Lycoris, and Sirius II, and Dorea Black looked at her with contempt.
Walburga's sister in-law Druella Rosier gathered her own children. Narcissa hugged Andromeda tight silently crying into her. The eldest, Bellatrix broke free and ran towards Phoebe and Elladora laughing.
Lysandra Yaxley and Herbert Burke covered their ears, Belvina and Arcturus Black ll closed their eyes and turned away.
Hesper Gamp, Ella Max, Harfang Longbottom, Licorus, Callidora, and Regulus II Black shook their heads in commiseration.
Cedrella, Marius and Phineas Il began to sing.
" The stars shine brightest, boldly and beautifully bathed in a pure sky."
"House of Back has long forgotten themselves and became voids of misery and contrite."
The cloaked figure stepped forward and hit their fist against the wall.
Walburga's portrait fell flat on the floor with a simple thud.
"Enough out of you. Shut up."
Misapinoa Blishwick (ne Black) portrait looked at the mysterious figures.
"Is that you dear niece?"
The person in question removed their hood.
It was revealed to be Iola Black. One of the earliest members of their family. The daughter of Cygnus I and Ella Max.
The youngest sibling of Sirius I, Phineas Nigellus, and Elladora Black.
In 1870 she had been blasted of the family tapestry by her older sister Elladora for marrying a muggle of African descent known as Bob Hitchens. Iola's husband was the only Muggle to ever step foot into the house.
"It is aunt Misa."
At her unveiling her sister Elladora screeched.
Phineas did you know she was here!?" Elladora's eyes bulged.
Her brother Phineas Nigellus inhaled deeply, and nodded towards Iola in acknowledgement, but remained silent to Ella's questions.
Iola's eldest brother Sirius looked at her curiously, smiled and gave a small wave. He had passed away at the age of eight before Iola was born. He was the first in the family to be named after the Dog Star.
She stood before the portraits of her relatives. Many gawked in bewilderment. Iola Black - now Iola Hitchens was very much alive and well.
"When I left the this place was in shambles now it's worse off. What a pity. "She feigned a look of hurt."
Ursula Black laughed. "Your sense of humor never failed to impress me. Nice to see you again Iola."
"Likewise," Iola winked at her former sister-in-law.
"Momma did you really you live here as a child?" Another person took off their hood.
" It wasn't his drab looking but yes once upon a time."
Misapinoa and her husband Jimbo greeted them warmly.
"Oh where are my manners. Aunt Misa, Uncle Jimbo, Ursula these are my children."
"Eridanus, Tucana, Vega, Pavo, and Alcyone.
"And this is my granddaughter Taygeta Zavijava one of my many grandchildren. I assume You've met her already Phineas?"
Phineas Nigellus slowly nodded. At Hogwarts his grand-niece used an alias. Known as "Tracey Davis" a student in Slytherin House.
The former patriarch of House Black and headmaster of Hogwarts cleared his throat.
"I'm a glad to see you survived the battle." The battle he was referring to was Battle of Hogwarts which had taken place weeks earlier.
"I bet you are." Taygeta rolled her eyes and stuck out her tongue at her grand-uncle.
Phineas II, Sirius III, Lycoris, and Alphard sniggered.
Iola eldest's brother Sirius motion toward his youngest sister.
"Iola?"
"Yes?"
"Your children are metamorphagi like Lexi, Eddy and I?
Metamorphagi were wix who could morph at will. It was an inheritable trait among members of of the House of Black.
Lexi and Eddy were the siblings Alexia Walkin and Eduardus Limette Black.
Eduardus was the first and earliest member to be blasted of the family tapestry by his elder sister Phoebe.
Alexia and Eduardus stepped forward alongside Sirius I.
"Ah yes! Pavo and Alcyone are."
Elladora moved into the painting with Irma who quickly stepped aside. The latter was currently studying her daughter's portrait that laid on the floor.
She sneered and pointed a sharp finger at Iola.
"I knew you would eventually come groveling back. Elladora cackled.
'Shameful Blood Traitors usually are full regrets" Phoebe chimed in.
"Have they gone mad?"
"Enough Phoebe it is over!" Licorus bellowed.
Aunt Ella!" Belvina huffed.
"God's don't you tire of ranting?"
Phineas Nigellus turned his back.
"What gives you the right to decide who is shameful? All of this started because you could not accept the inevitable Phoebe?" Alexia stood firm.
Misapinoa clicked her tongue.
Phineas Nigellus turned his back.
Eduardus strided across and grabbed Phoebe hand.
"Let go of me you filth blood traitor!"
"Let go traitor!"
"Let go Eduardus!
"She began to sob hysterically ."Let go Eddy"
"Phoebe stop."
Iola followed suit and calmly walked up to her older sister’s portrait.
Elladora whimpered and shrank back.
“Ella, I am free. Free of this elitist, hereditary bigoted institution. You and Phineas upheld and clung to it for decades and it has left this family as an empty void.” A true black hole."
Iola gently touch the scorched marks of the Black Family’s tapestry. “Regrets? My only regret is that the younger generations of this family suffered for it.”

❝ Your body told me in a dream it’s never been afraid of anything. ❞ TOM MADEN? No, that’s actually JAMES SIRIUS POTTER. Only NINETEEN years old, this GRYFFINDOR alumni works as a CHASER FOR THE MONTROSE MAGPIES and is sided with THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX. HE identifies as a CIS MAN and is a HALF-BLOOD who is known to be IMPULSIVE, EMOTIONAL, and QUIXOTIC but also COURAGEOUS, STEADFAST, and COMPASSIONATE. { JANE, TWENTY-TWO, NZT, SHE/HER } [ james is a donor-conceived child ]
james is, without a doubt, the most thoroughly decent of my lot
eldest of the three potters!! fuck yeah!! sibs 4 life!! potter kids against the world!!
lily is the fire, the inferno, blazing and burning and raging ; al is the guiding light, the lighthouse, looking out for all the ships in the night ; and james is the sun, golden and warm, trying to be steady in his light
(sort of telling, i suppose, about gryffindors that the two lions are the types of light that can burn you — one in a scorching moment, one from being too close for too long)
(or maybe that’s just james thinking — three people he loved, all gone in one night)
grief tw, parental death tw, death tw // harry died. minerva died. kingsley died. in one fell swoop. his father is dead, and all james can think is — he let him down. his father has always survived, has always fought for what mattered, has always taken care of james—had, he reminds himself, had—and when it came to it, james couldn’t protect him. maybe if james had been something better and braver and more important, like an auror, or something, anything, anything but what he is, maybe he could have saved him. ( and sometimes james wishes desperately that he was better—not to be the best or anything, but just to be good enough to save them for once. ) the world has always wanted pieces of them, these children of war heroes, even if the war wasn’t really a war, even if his father stopped it before it could be — his father was still a hero, and it mattered, being the chosen one’s children, even if it shouldn’t have. and james has always walked that line, not naturally responsible, but something steady in his chest, with light in his laugh and teasing smirks and cheeky quips and a playful disposition, but that sense — in the quiet moments between breaths, or when the night is cold and they’re the last few people awake under the light of the moon and stars — of looking out for his siblings, his family. it’s like: there is a difference between being responsible for and looking out for someone, and james has always felt the latter, but never has it been a heavy weight to bear until now. it is not responsibility burning at him, not really, because he trusts his loved ones to take care of themselves, he trusts them with everything, but that sense he should be doing more pulls at him. looking out for them has always come naturally, easy as breathing, and part of that was always in the assurance of his parents’ presence, of everyone’s presence — what couldn’t they do, as a family? what could possibly make the world spin fast enough that he couldn’t keep his balance? but the world is different now. it is missing its pillars. and for the first time, james isn’t sure how to look out for them. it’s not that he doesn’t trust them, because that hasn’t changed. it’s just that the world is an unfamiliar place now, one that took away three of the pillars that held up his sky, and he’s scared he won’t be able to bear the weight without their help.  end grief tw, parental death tw, death tw //
oof that was a bunch
james used to be a gryffindor, captain & chaser / member of the art club, herbology club and comc club, but he was chronic for missing some meetings of all of them on occasion bc of quidditch duties and some detentions (he mostly made it, though, especially art club)
current resident of the fulham flat, along with fred weasley, arabella mcgonagall, quinn lacey, sage brown-patil and maddie macmillan-bones (?)
he is... too trusting
lmao
or like
he’s always trusted easily, and he’s not breaking the habit as quickly as he ought to in war time (plot op to fuck him up, ig // especially if you wanna make ezekiel gamp and kill two birds w one stone and be part of the ICONIQUE™ sibling duo w gemma gamp, pls @ ariull for more)
a lowkey chaotic, but good-natured
dog person extraordinaire (lily gave him a puppy for getting signed to a pro tam and he loves him w his whole heart. name is tbd but options in the flat have included: james 3, fred 3, pup, florida man, sir scooby doo the smartest, and james 2 until it was pointed out that james is actually already the second so it would be the third)
the flat has two goldfish named frozzle and grozzle
very big on fair play w quidditch
has flown over to charles in the middle of a match to angrily call him out on his players endangering people before
he’s signed with the montrose magpies and plays chaser — he did have interest from the appleby arrows and the caerphilly catapults, but the magpies are based in scotland and make it easier for him to just drop in on hogsmeade weekends
he visits hogwarts sometimes solely to see hagrid, and remembers to catch up with his family too
his favourite quidditch players are his mother, viktor krum and lucinda talkalot
the only potter kid you could reasonably accuse of being a romantic smh
also he and al are tall (esp al) and lily is tiny lmao
james is the friend who will thwart your drunken attempts at running across the road screaming FREEDOMMMMM
however, also the anti-mom friend who just says whatever the fuck he’s thinking when drunk, which can lead to impulsive ideas and unexpected directions and a lot of headaches for ara, who is trying her best to keep the flat alive, goddammit james, fred come back here, quinn oh my gOD, sage, please don’t teach any of them to pick locks—
needs to get better at believing or expecting the worst in people lmao
if you could mix his trustingness with lily’s lack of trust/suspicious nature, you might get a person well-equipped for life
things roll off him pretty easily in general, and he takes life with a lot of ease, but when something hurts his feelings, you can see it
just not great at hiding his emotions in general, tbh
me @ him always: u dumb fuck
actually rly good at transfiguration, could have one day been a prof in another life
v likely to eventually be a healer, either following a quidditch injury or something else
thank god quinn made him study well for his NEWTs huh
we stan a ravenclaw who breaks into gryffindor common room during study season
kinda feels like he should quit quidditch, like what is he doingstill playing, he feels like it’s selfish and wrong of him, but roxanne has been yelling @ him to keep on track!!
ok i’mma stop here bc he’s a disaster sag and things will just keep rambling on if i don’t
4:23 am jane strikes again!!

Tuesday’s Treats is a weekly blog post dedicated to newly released books that I’m most excited for. (Books are in no particular order.)
All books featured this week will be released: MAR. 26th
1. Sky Without Stars (System Divine: 1): Jessica Brody & Joanne Rendell (goodreads) (book depository)
A reimagining of Les Misérables set in space, Sky Without Stars follows three unlikely revolutionaries — a thief, a refuge, and an officer — as they try to help their floundering country and people.
YA Science Fiction, Retelling; Simon Pulse/Simon & Schuster, Hardcover (US)
2. Scorch Dragons (Elementals: 2): Amie Kaufman (goodreads) (book depository)
After the explosive finale of Ice Wolves, twins Rayna and Anders will now have to face another challenge; one that affects every dragon, including Rayna.
(I will, literally, read anything Amie Kaufman comes out with, and I cannot wait to dive into this one.)
Middle Grade Fantasy; HarperCollins, Hardcover (US)
3. Unleaving: Melissa Ostrom (goodreads) (book depository)
Maggie is a survivor. After being assaulted at an off-campus party, Maggie is leaving her college town to move in with her Aunt Wren who lives in an isolated cabin the woods hoping to leave her demons behind and escape from her peers that are angry with her for speaking out against her attackers — popular athletes at her school — which lead to their expulsion. While staying with her aunt, Maggie tries to learn to cope with her trauma and bonds with a woman, Linnie, who was also raped in college.
Unleaving sounds like such a timely, powerful contemporary that shouldn’t be missed.
YA Contemporary Fiction; Feiwel & Friends/Macmillan, Hardcover (US)
4. Once & Future (Once & Future: 1): Amy Rose Capetta & Cori McCarthy (goodreads) (book depository)
The world needs more King Arthur retellings, especially gender-bent queer retellings like this one.
YA Science Fiction, Retelling, LGBTQIA+; James Patterson Presents/Hachette, Hardcover (US)

RABASTAN LESTRANGE ♦︎ RAVENCLAW ALUMNUS ♦ DEATH EATER ♦︎ FC: CHRIS WOOD ♦︎ TAKEN
B I O G R A P H Y :
One constant in Rabastan’s life is his relentless desire to please those closest to him. He often wondered if he had just been born just seven minutes sooner how different his life would look. Instead, Rabastan Amir Lestrange followed his brother Rodolphus into the world one scorching summer day only to grow up and discover he was six minutes too late to being the coveted child and rightful heir. It wasn’t as if Rabastan was neglected. The Lestrange Family was well off—they always took care of their own. There was, however, an emotional element missing. It was hard watching Rodolphus receive praise after praise from his parents as children. Rabastan watched from afar as their parents groomed his twin brother with certain assurances and promises about the greatness he was destined for and what he stood to inherit. It triggered Rabastan to feel so much contempt for an individual he relied on with his utmost being.
Starting Hogwarts was exciting. The young wizard approached the new experience with an open mindset. He knew the world was full of possibilities for him and his brother and he was looking forward to getting a fresh start away from the prying eyes of relatives. When Rabastan was sorted into Ravenclaw it came as a sudden shock—he felt like he had been sucker punched in the throat in the midst of the Great Hall. The boy thought he would never be able to withstand being separated from Rodolphus. Though he couldn’t stand him at times, he knew he couldn’t live without him either; it was a double sided coin. Over the years, however, the separation molded Rabastan into a more refined wizard. He remained at his brother’s beck and call—he was, after all, one of the only true friends he had—which is another reoccurring theme that would continue long into his adulthood.
Upon graduating from Hogwarts, Rabastan immediately knew he didn’t want to work a standard job or live a mundane life. At the expense of his family, he had more than enough means to figure things out on his own—so that’s exactly what he did. At eighteen years old, Rabastan briefly explored various portions of the world including Venice, Italy and continental portions of Europe where the art of gambling was originally founded. He was no stranger to the craft, but decided to take the time to expand his knowledge base on the subject which he would later use to his advantage. The wizard knew he had a special talent when it came to arithmancy, which he twisted to his advantage. He learned to count cards when it was applicable, and even discovered sequences that proved useful when placing bets on sporting events such as quidditch.
Gambling became one of Rabastan’s prime interests—he centered his entire life around it. He typically garnered success executing his carefully laid out tactics and strange methodologies, but not always. The wizard was known for going off on the occasional binder. At twenty-one, his family briefly cut him off from his trust fund in order to do damage control. He had gone nearly four days without sleeping—fueled by a mixture of alcohol and questionable potions, it was apparent he wasn’t in his right mind. He gambled away more than a quarter of his inheritance over that four day period—it was a hefty sum of money that he later made back by completing an astute collection of ambiguous and borderline illegal tasks. Rabastan turned his momentary lapse of judgment into a sleazy, yet wildly successful and ingenious part-time business. For the right price he would be willing to commit certain crimes like arson or larceny, always laced with his own creative twist.
Ensuring his identity is well-guarded, the wizard wears a dark cloak and hides his face beneath shadows and concealment charms. Though Rabastan doesn’t remember the moment everything grew out of control, this alter ego has provided him with the exact sense of individuality he has been searching for all his life. For once, he feels he has stepped out of his brother’s shadow and achieved something entirely on his own—only the painstaking irony is everything he does is still done in the shadows. When the notorious pyromaniac Napalm isn’t slumming the streets of Knockturn Alley looking for new business, the socialite Rabastan Lestrange is usually busy keeping up appearances. The Lestrange Family plays a prominent role in the financial backbone of the wizarding community by often donating large sums of money to those they support and, though he isn’t the first-born son he wishes he was, Rabastan has learned the hard way it is best if he doesn’t dishonor the family name again.

[Free eBook] The Scottish Rogue by Heather McCollum [Historical Romance]
The Scottish Rogue by Heather McCollum is the 1st novel in the The Campbells series of f/m historical highlander romance, free for a limited time courtesy of publisher Macmillan's Entangled: Amara imprint.
The series is set in Scotland during the late 17th century, centred around the members of a highland clan who wind up in cross-cultural relationships with the members of an aristocratic English family amidst assorted political tensions. Apparently, the series was formerly called “Highland Roses School” and this was originally announced and marketed under the title A Rose in the Highlands.
The story appears to be an enemies to lovers tale, starring an Englishwoman whose brother has purchased a castle in Scotland who finds her plans for turning it into a school for ladies fiercely opposed by a clan chief determined to keep his family home out of the hands of strangers, even as outside parties have their own plans for the castle which they will stop at nothing to carry out.
Offered worldwide, available at multiple retailers.
Free for a limited time @ Barnes & Noble, Amazon, Kobo, iTunes, Google Play, eBooks.com, BookShout (online reading & in-app download) (looks like the freebie was available worldwide when I spot-checked assorted regional stores, YMMV, and some retailers may only provide the freebie in certain countries)
Description 1684, Scottish Highlands
Englishwoman Evelyn Worthington is resolved to build a school for ladies in her brother's newly purchased Scottish castle. But when she arrives, not only does she find the castle scorched by fire, but a brawny Highlander bars her entry.

When the war between Evelyn and Grey escalates, passions flare. But outsiders have their own plans for Finlarig. After secrets are revealed, and muskets are lit, the fates of the Campbell Clan, the school, and a possible future for Grey and Evelyn are in as much jeopardy as their lives

Dramaturgy Ornata: Dieter Brusselaers @ Edfringe 2017
The World Premiere of Maria Ornata, a dramatic one-man show written and performed by Belgian actor and playwright Dieter Brusselaers.
A unique, imaginative story-telling experience that pays tribute to the poeticism and grandiosity of classical theatre.
Bewilderness Theatre Company, Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2017
A hole has been ripped through the fabric of reality. Heaven and Earth have collided, leaving both mortals and deities lost in chaos. The only one who knows what has happened is the Archangel Gabriel, and now it's up to him to tell the tale of how it all came to pass.
What was the inspiration for this performance?
Maria Ornata was inspired by the 1663 play Faëton of Reuckeloze stoutheit by Joost van den Vondel. It is a mythological story about the brazen son of the sun god Phoebus almost scorching the Earth with the sun chariot, nearly driving humanity to extinction. The catastrophe is only averted when the Heavenly Council of Greek gods decide to interfere: after all, if humanity would not be around anymore to make sacrifices to the gods, they would starve too.
According to popular lore, Vondel wrote this play after his play Lucifer was censured by religious authorities for depicting biblical characters and the theatre it was set to perform in had already provided an expensive backdrop depicting the Heavens.
Maria Ornata takes Vondels backdrop as well as the basic premise of the relation of mortals and deities being one of vital mutual dependency, and repopulates both with the Saints Vondel was forbidden to depict.
Maria Ornata was first written as full-cast play, structurally following Vondel's lead, and then developed into a one-man show with roots in a more narrative form theatre.
Is performance still a good space for the public discussion of ideas?
Yes, but not necessarily in an explicitly political manner. The thing that sets performance in the arts apart from propaganda is the fact that its very aesthetic can move the mind and alter ideas: a theatre production can help generate a sensitivity that is vital to an empathic and open-minded society.
How did you become interested in making performance?
I started doing theatre as a teenager, and was thrown right into Shakespeare by my drama teacher. I very quickly recognised that both performing and viewing stories that laid outside my direct personal life experiences but resonated with it helped me to develop. Yes, Medea's anger is larger than life in comparison to my personal experience. But it also processes the ur-emotion first birthing the kind of jealousy that was recognisable to me.
Is there any particular approach to the making of the show?
The performance is very text-based and involves many characters. The approach my director Alex Romberg took me in started off from a simultaneous mapping out of the high-strung, lyrical text and the development of a physical identity for each character.
Does the show fit with your usual productions?
Bewilderness Theatre Company is a new company, and Maria Ornata is its debut performance.
For me personally, Maria Ornata is completely in line with the kind of stripped text-based theatre I usually write and/or act in.
What do you hope that the audience will experience?
An aesthetic epiphany brought about by mostly verbal means that will leave them thinking about their own views on reality and its limits.
What strategies did you consider towards shaping this audience experience?
In my experience, with highly poetic language the first concern is that of translation - making beautiful words resonate with meaning. This is the benchmark for all the physical and communicative tools we have used shaping this performance.
Using lyrical language and embodying many characters, Gabriel reenacts how the Celestial Beings of Heaven start to feel their powers weaken as their influence on Earth plummets. For the first time, they worry about fading into oblivion. Matters are made worse by Dei, an ambitious mortal engineer who meddles with nature by inventing a mechanical sun. The deities who sit on the Celestial Council demand that the Virgin Mary, Queen of the Heavens, intimidate Dei and win back human devotion. Mary must walk a razor's edge between self-preservation and respect of humankind's free will as the fate of the Heavens hangs in the balance.
Maria Ornata originated as a Dutch-language play with a large cast, inspired by the seventeenth century playwright, Joost van den Vondel. This spring, Brusselaers adapted it into an English solo piece during the Can Serrat International Art Residency in Spain.
Dieter Brusselaers is a Belgian actor, playwright, and artistic researcher. He also performed self-penned material with Antwerp-based young collective TG Bara,  and as a finalist in Frappant TXT 2012, a prestigious Flemish contest for new writing and performance. He also contributed a chapter to the book RuPaul's Drag Race and the Shifting Visibility of Drag Culture, which is due to be published by Palgrave MacMillan in September 2017.
Maria Ornata is directed by Alex Romberg, an emerging director from the United States. She most recently co-directed Claire by Emma Adler, a co-production between East 15 Acting School and The Harvard Advocate. She is the founder of Bewilderness Theatre Company, which aims to use the multi-cultural flair of its members to respond to the modern world and to create a sense of adventure, imagination, and deep thought onstage.

Kate Douglas and A.C. Arthur return with another scorching volume in their Claimed by the Mate series featuring two delicious, unforgettable novels in one! In Dangerous Passions, Feral Passions Resort is the place for women to find romance and seduction with a hot, hard werewolf alpha mate. Traker Jakes and Evan Dark of the Trinity Alps pack have yet to find a strong, sexy BBW woman to consume with heady pleasure. But a special woman has arrived at Feral Passions Resort. The one who will burn with passion between these two sexy werewolf shifters. Desire will reach its peak…and the best these three can do is hold on to the sensations that erupt between them. In Bound to the Wolf, Phelan Sava is a lycan werewolf shifter with a dark side to his soul. He lives for pleasure and revels in pain. But what burns for more than anything is a woman to dominate with his unbridled passion and desperate lust for good. Marena Panos is an attorney with a dark secret that follows her into the mountains and into the bed of a Phelan Sava. And when she is hunted by the feral beast that ravishes her body and claims her soul, Marena has no choice but to give in with no intention of ever looking back.

Claimed by the Mate, Vol. 3 by Kate Douglas If you are looking for a purely erotic read with more focus on the erotic, then CLAIMED BY THE MATE is the book for you. Both stories are shifter based with hot and bothered alpha males looking for that perfect someone to slake their lust. What they find is an adventure racked with danger and other insane alphas looking to steal what they have taken for their own. Easy, enjoyable, erotica with romance and on the side. CLAIMED by THE MATES will fit well with those who enjoy a dark erotic romance where the alpha saves the damsel from a horrific future. I received this ARC copy of Claimed by the Mate, Vol. 3 from St. Martin's Press - Swerve. This is my honest and voluntary review. This book is set for publication Jan. 17, 2017.
